This map presents the geographical distribution of population, replacement cost of buildings, and total number of buildings (residential, commercial, industrial), and their distribution between lateral load resisting system construction material, within the European Exposure Model (v0.1). The data is presented within administrative level 0 (country) boundaries. This version of the model has been integrated within the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Global Exposure Map (v2018.1). The datasets employed to develop this exposure model were publicly provided through national institutions and local experts, and have been processed and combined within the scope of the European FP7 Framework Project NERA and the European Horizon 2020 project SERA. This European model and the underlying databases are based on best available and publicly accessible datasets and studies (list of sources available here). The European Exposure Model is intended to be a dynamic product, such that it may be updated when new datasets and models become available. Releases of updated versions of the European Exposure Model are anticipated on a regular basis, and plan to be implemented within updates to GEM’s Global Exposure and Risk Maps.
